A recent study by digital marketing agency Foundation has found that salicylic acid is the most popular skincare ingredient of 2024. This exfoliating ingredient, known for its ability to fight acne, unclog pores, and reduce inflammation, is featured in many of the year's top-selling skincare products.

Other popular ingredients include retinol and retinoids, which target a range of skin concerns like wrinkles, acne, and pigmentation, and hyaluronic acid, a powerful hydrator.

The top 10 most-searched skincare ingredients of 2024 are:

  4. Niacinamide

  5. Vitamin C

  6. Glycolic acid

  7. Peptides

  8. Ceramides

  9. Squalane

  10. Bakuchiol

This growing interest in science-based skincare is driven by well-informed consumers, trusted brands, and a focus on achieving visible results.

Olivia Ford, Head of Performance at Foundation, explains that the pandemic has led to increased consumer education, making people more aware of ingredients and their benefits. She believes that salicylic acid's popularity reflects this growing consumer knowledge and demand for effective, clinically proven skincare solutions.
