COSMETICS INDUSTRY LEADERS UNITE TO PROMOTE ANIMAL-FREE TESTING GLOBALLY

A group of over 35 major players in the cosmetics industry will support scientific evaluation of new animal-free safety assessment methods.

Over 35 major players in the cosmetics industry have come together to promote animal-free testing worldwide. Forming the International Collaboration on Cosmetics Safety (ICCS).

The group includes industry associations, cosmetics manufacturers, suppliers, and animal protection organisations.

Famous beauty brands, such as L’Oréal, LVMH, and Procter & Gamble (P&G), will support scientific evaluation of new animal-free safety assessment methods and share the results with regulators.

ICCS also aims to fund training and educational programs to build confidence in animal-free safety assessment approaches.

Then, they plan to share the results with regulators to facilitate regulatory acceptance, provide education and training resources to promote the use of the latest animal-free safety science.

The full list of ICCS members also includes BASF, Beiersdorf, Chanel, Unilever, and many others.

ICCS's formation comes as concern has been raised by animal welfare NGOs over rare instances in the European Union where animal tests are mandated for cosmetic ingredients to meet REACH regulations.
