L’OCCITANE GROUP LAUNCHES AMBITIOUS PLAN TO ACHIEVE NET-ZERO EMISSIONS BY 2050

L’occitane Group aims to reduce its carbon footprint by 2031 and ultimately achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

L’Occitane Group, a global beauty and cosmetics company that includes well-known brands such as L’Occitane en Provence, Elemis, Sol de Janeiro and Grown Alchemist, has recently launched an extensive three-pillar strategy to address its greenhouse gas emissions.

The company aims to reduce its carbon footprint by 2031 and ultimately achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

To develop its sustainability roadmap, the L’Occitane Group has been gathering data on all direct and indirect sources of emissions since its first carbon assessment in 2008.

The three pillars of their strategy involve reducing energy consumption emissions, shared-responsibility emissions, and preserving and restoring ecosystems to offset any residual emissions.

The first step in this plan is to cut greenhouse gas emissions from energy consumption by 50% at the company's sites such as factories, warehouses, and retail outlets.

This will be achieved through the use of renewable energy sources and implementing energy-efficient practices.

The company also plans to eliminate air freight by 2030 and neutralize residual emissions by the same year.

To ensure that its targets align with the Paris Agreement goals, the L’Occitane Group has sought validation from the Science Based Targets initiative. This organization encourages companies to address climate change in ways that are scientifically necessary to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement.

The Chief Sustainability Officer at L’Occitane Group, Adrien Geiger, expressed the company's commitment to achieving these ambitious targets. He emphasized that transforming production units, products, and distribution requires developing solutions with consumers and partners.

In addition to its own sustainability efforts, L’Occitane Group partnered with Kering last year to establish a €300m Climate Fund for Nature.

This fund aims to mobilize resources from the luxury fashion and beauty sectors to protect and restore nature, with a particular focus on empowering women.

In conclusion, L’Occitane Group's comprehensive sustainability strategy highlights the company's commitment to addressing the climate crisis and making a positive impact on the environment.

By reducing its greenhouse gas emissions and supporting initiatives that protect and restore nature, the company is taking tangible steps towards a more sustainable future.
